In this section each equation has some statements (A, B, C, D …….) given in column-I and some statements (P, Q, R, S, T, ……) in column-II. Any given statement in column-I can have correct matching with ONE OR MORE statements (s) in column-II.

Two wires each carrying a steady current-I are shown in four configurations in column-I. Some of the resulting effects are described in column-II. Match the statements in column-I with the statements in column-II.

column - I column - I

Point P is situated midway between the wire
(P) The mag. field at P due to the current in the wire are in the same direction

Point P is situated at the midpoint of the line joining the centers of the circular wires, which have same radii
(Q) The magnetic fields at P due to the currents in the wires are in opposite direction

Point P is situated at the midpoint of the two loops
(R) There magnetic fields at P

Point P is situated at the common center of the wires
(S) The wires repel each other.

Explanation:

(A) Q, R   The magnetic field at point P, due to upper wire is into the plane of paper and due to lower wire is out of the plane of paper. Hence both fields are in opposite direction & net field is zero.

(B) P The magnetic field at P will be along the axis towards right side. Hence magnetic field in the same direction due to both wire.

(C) Q, R The magnetic field due to current in the left side loop of P is equal and opposite to magnetic field due to current in right side loop hence net magnetic field = 0

(D) Q The magnetic field at P due to the currents in the wires are in opposite direction.

Hence

A → Q, R

B → P

C → Q, R

D → Q
