The rms value of an ac current of 50Hz is 10amp. The time taken by the alternating current in reaching from zero to maximum value and the peak value of current will be,

(a) 2 × 10–2 sec and 14.14 amp

(b) 1 × 10–2 sec and 7.07 amp

(c) 5 × 10–3 sec and 7.07 amp

Best answer

The correct option (d) 5 × 10–3 sec and 14.14 amp

Explanation:

I = 10 A

f = 50 Hz

Irms = (Im/√2)

where Im is peak value hence Im = √2 ∙ Irms

∴  Im = 10√2 A = 10 × 1.41 = 14.1 A

Time taken to reach form O to Im is [(T/4) – 0] = (T/4)

hence t = (T/4) = (1/4f)

∴ t = [1/{4 × 50}] = [1/200] sec

∴ t = 0.5 × 10–2 sec

t = 5 × 10–3 sec
