A lamp consumes only 50% of peak power in an ac circuit. What is the phase difference between the applied voltage and the circuit current.

The correct option (b) (π/3)  

Explanation:

lamp consumes only 50% power 

i.e. 50% is disspated in the circuit. 

∴ power factor of the circuit = cos ɸ = (50 / 100) = 0.5 

∴ ɸ = cos–1 (0.5) 

= cos–1 (1/2) 

= 60° 

= (π/3).
