(a) Both the statements are true and Statement II is the correct explanation of Statement I.

A conducting wire is connected to the poles of battery. The wire is kept above a magnetic needle parallel to it. When current flows through the wire, then needle is deflected. The deflection of needle indicates that with the passage of current in the wire, a magnetic field is established around it.
