MB = 1/ 2 × AB = 1 / 2 × 12 = 6 cm (perpendicular drawn from the centre of the circle to the chord bisects the chord)

OB2 = OM2 + MB2 .....................(Pythagoras theorem) 

= 82 + 62 

= 64 + 36 

= 100 ∴ OB 

= 10 cm
