Acid should be poured to water. Why is it so?

When acid and water is mixed lot of heat is generated. Hence there is chances of splashing of the liquid. If water is poured to acid will splash causing injuries. In the other case, splashing will be of water with a concentration of acid, which will not hazardous as the other one.
