Ammonium carbamate decomposes as NH2COONH4(s)  2NH3(g) + CO2(g)  In a closed vessel containing ammonium carbamate in equilibrium, NH3 is added such that the partial pressure of NH3 now equals original total pressure. Calculate the ratio of total pressure now to the original pressure.

Let us assume that initial pressure of the mixture is P. Thus, pressure is due to NH3 and CO2 which are present in the ratio of 2 : 1. (from the reaction)

After adding NH3 , partial pressure of NH3 equals the original total pressure
