Column chromatography is the method of chromatographic refining of metals available in minute quantities and the impurities are not chemically very much different from the element. In this process the column of Al2O3 is prepared in glass tube that forms the stationary phase and the solution of the components to be separated are taken as solution that forms the mobile phase. The components would separate out based on their different solubilities in the mobile phase and the stationary phase.
