A 2,500-N load is suspended at a bar attached to ropes of a cross-sectional area of 40mm2 and lengths of 4 and 5m, respectively, as shown in Fig. 1.49. The load is suspended in such a manner that the bar AB remains horizontal.

Determine

(i) stress in each rope,

(ii) distance a and
