Meristematic tissues are composed of cells that have the capability to divide. These cells are exist in different shapes without intercellular space. Cells are thin walled, rich in protoplasm, without vacuoles.

Permanent tissues are derived from meristematic tissue and are composed of cells have their definite shape, size and function. These cells may be thin walled (living) or thick walled (dead).
