A mixture of two salts was treated as follows: (a) The mixture was heated with manganese dioxide and concentrated H2SO4, when yellowish green gas was liberated. (b) The mixture on heating with NaOH solution gave a gas which turn red litmus blue. (c) Its solution in water gave blue ppt. with potassium ferricyanide and red colouration with NH4 CNS.

 Yellow greenish gas

The mixture contains Fe+2 and Fe+3 (from NH+4 ) (from test b and d) and Cl– from test A.
