This is due to sign convention.

In the figure Current I1 flows in the direction shown in AB and current I2 flows in opposite direction.

So the current in the direction of AB is I1-I2

but shouldnt there be a current i3 from point of contact of i1 at A?

You can say I3 = I1-I2

no i meant that for the 2kohm resistor on the top how are we sure that only i2 will come and not any other current

This is because the source current is only I1 and I2, so there will be only two current flowing in the circuit.
The resistors 1ohm and 2ohm are in parallel connection, so if you apply kvl you will get the same current.
