The system is then released and the mass shoots to the right. If the friction is ignored how fast will the mass be moving as it shoots away?

When the spring is compressed the potential energy stored in the spring is

After release this energy will be given to the mass as kinetic energy. Thus

from which v = 50 = 7.07 m/s.
