A cricket ball of mass 150 g is moving with a velocity of 12 m/sec and is hit by a bat so that the ball is turned back with a velocity of 20 m/sec. The force of blow acts for 0.01 s on the ball. Find the average force exerted by the bat on the ball.

Best answer

Correct option (B) 480N

Explanation:

Initial momentum of the ball = (150/1000) x 12 = 1.8kgm/sec

Final momentum of the ball = –(150/1000) x 20 = – 3.0kg m/sec

Change in momentum = 4.8 kg m/sec.

Average force exerted = impulse/time = (4.8 kg m/sec)/0.01s
