Two waves in one string are described by the wave functions y1 =  3cos(4x - 2.6t) and  y2 = 4sin(5x - 2t) where y & x are in centimeter and t is in seconds. The resultant displacement of y = y1 + y2 at the point x = 0.5 and t = 0 is ….. cm

Best answer

y = y1 + y2 = 3cos(4x - 1.6t) + 4sin(5x - 2t) at  x = 0.5 & t = 0

y = 3 cos(+2 rad) + 4.0(2.5 rad) = 3 x -0.416 + 4 x 0,599 = 1.15 cm
