A wire of cross-sectional area A and length L is hanging from ceiling. The density of its material is p. The gravity is pulling it downward while ceiling is preventing it from fall.

So it is in stressed state. Calculate stress at a cross section located at height x from lower end. (The force is axial, the stress is tensile).
