A sensitive milliammeter is used as a voltmeter. Find the value in volts of one scale division of this instrument if its internal resistance is 500Ω and if each scale division corresponds to 1mA.

Answer: 0.5 V per division.

Explanation:

For the instrument to pass a current of 1 milliammeter the voltage across its terminals has to be 

V = IR = 10-3 x 500 = 0.5V
