After the world bar II world was divided between USA and USSR , Communist and Capitalist blocs were powerful with the military machine and might to do whatever suits them. India was backward and lacking industry and technology so it was prudent to keep away from both blocs. India had cooperation with USA and USSR. We were freed and poor Asian, African nations were under socialist leadership and were highly impressed by Russian development in science and technology, so they adopted USSR model of development as solution for development and elimination of poverty.
These Non-aligned leaders failed their nations and many of them were dictators, no creative and constructive attitude to build their economies. Indian chattering intellectuals used to fly abroad to lecture how India was building the economy and making development. Indian statisticians painted glorious picture but later India had negative growth.
Nehru insulated India from cold war and hegemony but insulated from their creativity and productivity so preferred British bureaucratic system to build India. Due to the non-aligned movement and promotion, Nehru was engaged in external affairs. Nehru was declared as India’s pioneer of foreign relations and policy but failed when China attacked India and 1962 debacle and Nehru went to USA for help . later were known as talkative people in the world instead innovative.
