Calculate the  average speed of molecules of N2 in space adjacent to the surface of Triton. T = - 240°C, molecular weight of N2 = 28.013 amu. Consult Science Brief 14.7.3 and use equation.

vm = (3KT/m)1/2

Mass of N2 = 28.013/(6.022 x 1023) = 4.6517 x 10-23g

M = 4.65 x 10-26kg

Temperature T = - 240 + 273 = + 33 K

vm = ((3 x 1.38 x 10-23 x 33)/(4.65 x 10-26)1/2 = (29.380 x 103)1/2

vm = 171.39m/s = 0.171km/s

6vm = 1.028km/s
