Compute the bulk modulus of water from the following data: Initial volume = 100 litre, pressure increase = 100 atmosphere, final volume = 100.5 litre (1 atmosphere = 1.013 x 105 Pa)

∆V = 100.5 – 100 = 0.5 litre = 0.5 x 10–3 m3 ;

P = 100 atm = 100 x 1.013 x 105 Pa

V = 100 litre = 100 x 10–3 m3

Bulk modulus = K = P/∆V/V = PV/∆V

K = 2.026 x 109 Pa
