The reciprocating masses are balanced by connecting balancing mass in the line of stroke opposite to the reciprocating masses. But there is a generation of unbalanced centrifugal force due to the rotation of the balancing mass and it creates hammer blow. In order to reduce the hammer blow the balancing mass kept half of the required mass to balance the reciprocating mass. Hence complete balancing of reciprocating masses by adding rotating mass is not possible. Complete balancing of single cylinder reciprocating engine is not possible.
