Reluctance of a magnetic circuit is known to be 105 AT/Wb and excitation coil has 200 turns. Current in the coil is changing uniformly at 200 A/s. Calculate (a) inductance of the coil (b) voltage induced across the coil and (c) energy stored in the coil when instantaneous current at t = 1 second is 1 A. Neglect resistance of the coil.

Best answer

(a) L = N2/S = 2002 /105 = 0.4 H

(b) eL = L dI/dt = 0.4 × 200 = 80V

(c) E = 1/2 (LI2) = 0.5 x 0.4 x I2 = 0.2 J
