If [(x - y, z), (2x - y, w)] = [(-1, 4), (0, 5)], find the value of x + y.

Given that

Equating, we get 

x - y = -1 … (i) 

2x - y = 0 …(ii) 

z = 4, w = 5 

(ii) – (i) ⇒ 2x – y – x + y = 0 + 1 

⇒ x = 1 and y = 2 

∴ x + y = 2 + 1 = 3.
