Assertion : An original solution containing excess of Ni2+ ions gives a yellow coloured solution with potassium cyanide solution.

Reason : A solution of Ni2+ ions gives red precipitate with dimethylglyoxime solution just made alkaline.

Hint : Ni2+ + 2 CN → Ni(CN)2 ↓ green

If CN  is in excess then

Ni(CN)2¯ + 2 CN  → [Ni(CN)4]2– soluble yellow coloured complex.
