Which of the following potential energy curves in Fig. cannot possibly describe the elastic collision of two billiard balls? Here r is the distance between centres of the balls.

During an elastic collision, the kinetic energy is converted into potential energy. Since potential energy of a system of two masses varies inversely as the distance between them i.e., as 1/r, all the potential energy curves except the one shown is fig. (v) do not describe an elastic collision
