Reclamation means reclaiming of marshy or submerged areas for settlement or other use.
History of Land Reclamation in Mumbai:
(i) William Hornby approved the building of great sea wall.
(ii) Several plans by both government and private companies helped in building new areas
(iii) In 1864 the Back Bay Reclamation Company won the right to reclaim foreshore from the tip of Malabar Hill to the end of Colaba.
(iv) Bombay Port Trust created 22 acre Ballard Estate.
