Ionisation potential (energy) for the ground state H atom = 2.18 x 10-18 J

The nuclear charge of helium is 2. Therefore,

EHe+ → He2+ = Z2 x EH→H+

Energy required for removing one electron from

He+ = 22 x (2.18 x 10-18 J)

= 4 x 2.18 x 10-18 J

= 8.72 x 10-18 J
