The intersection of sets A and B is the set of all elements which are common to both A and B and is denoted by A ∩ B. Thus, A ∩ B = {x ;x ∈ A and x ∈ B}

Properties:

(i) A ∩ B = B ∩ A

(ii) A ∩ (B ∩ C) = (A ∩ B) ∩ C

(iii) A ∩ φ = φ

(iv) A ∩ U = A

(v) A ∩ A = A

(vi) A ∩ (B ∪ C) = (A ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ C)
