Since there are 5 known values of y,

so expand the binomial expansion (y – 1)5 = 0,

y5 – 5y4 + 10y3 10y2 + 5y1 – y0 = 0

248 – 5 × 255 + 10 × 260 – 10y2 + 5 × 280 – 300 = 0.

248 – 1275 + 2600 – 10y2 + 1400 – 300 = 0.

y2 = 263.7.
