 Ethylene diabromide reacts with Na And dry ether gives Butane.

This is an example of Wurtz Reaction. Here 2 moles of alkyl halide react with sodium in presence of Dry Ether to produce an alkane giving off the respective sodium halide as by product.

C2H5Br + Na + Na + BrC2H5  C4H10 + 2NaBr 

There's another reaction called Frankland Reaction which works on the same principle as in this reaction. (Only Zn is used in place of Na.)
