Let the two rational numbers be  x and y

As we know that between two rational numbers x and y where x < y there is a rational number \(\frac{(x+y)}{2}\)

= x < (x+y)/2 < y

 = (-3+1)/2

= -2/2

= -1

Hence, the rational number between -3 and 1 is -1

∴ -3 < -1 < 1
