How does detergent cause water pollution?

(i) Detergent are non-biodegradable and they cause water pollution. 

(ii) They inhibit oxidation of organic substances present in waste water because they form a sort of envelope around them. 

(iii) They form stable foam in rivers which extend over several hundred meters of the river water.
