If the above capacitor is connected across a 6.0V battery, find (a) the charge supplied by the battery, (b) the induced charge on the dielectric and (c) the net charge appearing on one of the coated surfaces.

Dielectric const. = 4

F = 1.42nf, V = 6V

Charge supplied = q = CV = 1.42 × 10–9 × 6 = 8.52 × 10–9C

Charge Induced = q(1 – 1/k) = 8.52 × 10–9 × (1 – 0.25) = 6.39 × 10–9 = 6.4nc

Net charge appearing on one coated surface = 8.52μC/4 = 2.13nc
