Find the coordinates of the points of trisection of the line segment joining (4, -1) and (-2, -3)

Let A(x₁, y₁) = A(4,-1) 

B(x₂, y₂) = B(-2, -3). 

P and Q are the points of trisection of 

AB. AP = PQ = QB 

(i) P divides AB in the ratio m₁ : m₂ :: 1 : 2.

∴ As per Section Formula, Coordinates of P are :

ii) Q divides AB in the ratio 2 : 1.
