Compare the functioning of alveoli in the lungs and nephrons in the kidneys with respect to their structure and functioning.

1. Structure of alveoli:

(i) These are balloon like structures.

(ii) These provide a surface where the exchange of gases can take place.

Function:

Alveoli absorbs oxygen and give up carbon dioxide.

2. Structure of Nephrons:

Each kidney has large numbers of filtration units called nephrons packed close together.

Function:

Blood is reaching kidneys by renal artery. Here filtration takes place. By this glucose, Amino acid and salts are reabsorbed.
