Let the present son’s age be x years

Present father’s age be 5x years

Son’s age after 6 years = (x + 6) years

Fathers’ age after 6 years = (5x + 6) years

So,

5x + 6 = 3(x + 6)

5x + 6 = 3x + 18

5x – 3x = 18 – 6

2x = 12

x = 12/2

= 6

∴ present son’s age is x = 6years

Present father’s age is 5x = 5(6) = 30years
