On heating a mixture of SO2Cl2 and CO two eqilibria are simultaneously established

The correct option is d (amount SO2Cl2 and CO increase)

The given equilibrium are:-

SO2Cl2 ⇋ SO2 + Cl2........(i)

CO + Cl2 ⇋ COCl2.........(ii)

  • If more SO2  is added at equilibrium then by Le Chatelier's principle reaction (i) will proceed backward and SO2Cl2 formation will be favored and Cl2 formation is less. 
  • Now, Since Cl2 formation is reduced so in equation (ii) by Le Chatelier's principle, the reaction proceeds backward side and enhances the formation of CO.
