The volume of a gas at STP is 2 L. 300 J heat is given to it, as a result of which volume changes to 2.5 L at 1 atm. Calculate the change in internal energy of the system.

∆U = q + w
W = -P∆V
W = -1(2.5 – 2) = 0.5 L atm
= -0.5 × 101.3 J
= – 50.65 J
Q = 330J
∆U = 300J + (-50.65J)
= 249.35 J
