If a square is inscribed in a circle, find the ratio of the areas of the circle and the square.

Diagonal of square = diameter of circle = 2r cm, where r is radius of circle

Area of circle = πr2 cm2

Area of Square = 1/2 x diagonal2

= 1/2 x 4r2 = 2r2 cm

Now, ratio of the areas of the circle and the square

= πr2/2r2

= π/2

Therefore, the required ratio is π:2.
