Najib crossed the border in daylight while none dared do so. It was very hot. While crossing the border, he knew the track he had to take. Najib crossed the International Boundary Pillar Number 1066. This track bisected the two posts of the Indus Rangers at Jagtarai and Vingoor. But he strayed slightly and from their watch-tower, the Rangers saw through their binoculars this sleek camel, warped and distorted by the heat shimmer into a lumbering leviathan. They could not stand for an Indian slipping into their territory with tendu leaf right under their noses, and that too without paying any bride. They chased him firing a mile-long distance. The spent bullets have flopped in the sand behind him. It caused dust to rise. This dust rose between him and the rangers and he could escape. But Najib’s camel got agonising cracks in his feet. He might have died of fatigue. To ease the camel of his burden Najib started walking beside him.
वस्तुतः नजब ने सीमा दिन में पार की जबकि ऐसा दुस्साहस कोई नहीं करता था। उस दिन बहुत गर्मी थी। सीमा पार करते समय उसे पता था कि उसे कौन-सा रास्ता पकड़ना है। नजब ने खम्भा नम्बर 1066 से अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय सीमा पार की। यह रास्ता सिन्धी सिपाहियों की दो चौकियों जगताराई और विंगूर के निकट दो समान भागों में विभाजित करता था। लेकिन वह थोड़ा-सा भटक गया और पाकिस्तानी निगरानी दल ने अपनी दूरबीन से इस चमकीले ऊँट को एक बड़े-से जहाज के रूप में चलते देखा जिसका रूप गर्मी से बिगड़ा हुआ (अस्पष्ट) था। एक भारतीय का उनके क्षेत्र में बिना रिश्वत दिए, उनकी नाक के नीचे तेन्दु पत्तों के साथ प्रवेश करने को सहन नहीं कर सकते थे। पाकिस्तानी रेंजर्स ने उसका एक मील दूर तक गोलियाँ चलाते हुए पीछा किया। चलाई गईं गोलियाँ उसके पीछे आकर रेत में धमाके से गिर रही थीं। इसकी वजह से जो धूल उड़ी। वह धूल उसके और सिपाहियों के बीच दीवार-सी बन गई और वह बच निकल पाया। किन्तु नजबे के ऊँट के पैरों में पीड़ादायक छाले पड़ गये। वह थकान से मर भी सकता था। ऊँट को बोझ से छुटकारा देने के लिए नजब ने उसके साथ-साथ पैदल चलना शुरू कर दिया।
