Best answer
  • In free-floating respiration, carbohydrates are used as a respiratory substrate whereas in protoplasmic respiration proteins are used as a respiratory substrate.
  • Free-floating respiration is the normal respiration process of an organism and protoplasmic respiration takes place when all carbohydrates and fats are used up and when the organisation is under starvation condition.
