Massive Earthquake in Nepal
Kathmandu, April 25
A massive earthquake struck the Himalayan country at 11.55 a.m. today. The earthquake had an intensity of 8.2 on the Richter scale and its aftershocks still continue. The earthquake had its epicentre 20 km from Kathmandu and it lay 5 km below the earth’s surface. Deaths have been estimated at 715, while thousands of wounded people have been shifted to various hospitals. Rescue teams have been dispatched from India. Nepal has declared a national emergency. Destruction has been widespread and many towns besides Kathmandu lie in ruins. The Indian government has pledged full support to the people of Nepal.
