(d) The Islamic calendar began in AD 622, during which the emigration of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, known as Hijra occurred. It is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 lunar months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It is also called Hijri calendar. The Gregorian calendar is a lunar calendar.
