Water Conservation
Water is known as the elixir of life. All living things consist mostly of water e.g. the human body is made of two thirds of water. Man can live without food but not without water. That is why water needs be conserved before it completely gets exhausted.
Water conservation is a method to collect water for future use. Generally, it so happens that we let the rainwater go into the drains and when there is no rain, we cry for water. Saving rain water wisely is what we mean by water conservation.
Water is needed for the very survival of all creatures. It is needed for all kinds of vegetation and crops to grow. While our demand for water has risen because of rising population and growing industrialisation, it is high time we should think of water conservation.
Water can be conserved in many ways. Trees play a very important role in conserving water. Protecting trees means protecting water. More and more trees should be planted in order to have more groundwater. ‘Rainwater harvesting’ is another effective way of conserving water. It means collecting rainwater in an underground tank that is connected to the roof of the building, and recycling it for future use.
Water is one of the nature’s most precious gifts to mankind. So we should conserve water to save life.
जल संरक्षण
जल को जीवन के अमृत के रूप में जाना जाता है। सभी जीवों में जल विद्यमान रहता है जैसे कि किसी मनुष्य के शरीर में दो-तिहाई भाग जल होता है। व्यक्ति भोजन के बिना रह सकता है किन्तु बिना जल के नहीं रह सकता। इसी कारण, इससे पहले कि जल बिल्कुल समाप्त हो जाए, जल का संरक्षण करना चाहिए।
जल संरक्षण, जल को भविष्य में प्रयोग के लिए एकत्र करना है। सामान्यतया ऐसा होता है कि हम वर्षा के जल को नालियों में बह जाने देते हैं और जब वर्षा नहीं होती है तो जल के लिए रोते-चिलाते हैं। जल संरक्षण से हमारा तात्पर्य वर्षा के जल को बुद्धिमत्तापूर्वक बचाने से है।
जल हर प्राणी के जीवन के लिए आवश्यक है। यह हर प्रकार की वनस्पति एवं फसल के उगने के लिए आवश्यक है। अब जब बढ़ती हुई जनसंख्या व औद्योगीकरण के कारण जल की माँग बढ़ गई है तो यह बिल्कुल सही समय है कि जल के संरक्षण के विषय में सोचा जाए।
जल कई प्रकार से संरक्षित किया जा सकता है। जल संरक्षण में वृक्ष महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं। वृक्ष बचाना अर्थात् जल बचाना। अधिक से अधिक भूमिगत जल प्राप्त करने के लिए अधिक से अधिक वृक्ष लगाए जाने चाहिए। ‘वर्षा के जल का एकत्रीकरण’ जल-संरक्षण की एक अन्य प्रभावशाली विधि है। इसका अर्थ है भवन की छत से जुड़े हुए एक भूमिगत टैंक में वर्षा का जल एकत्र करना और उसे भविष्य में प्रयोग करना।
जल प्रकृति द्वारा मनुष्य को प्रदान किये गये सबसे बेशकीमती उपहारों में से एक है। इसलिए जीवन को बचाने के लिए हमें जल संरक्षण करना चाहिये।
