The law of equipartition of energy states that, “for any dynamical system in a thermal equilibrium, the total energy is equally divided among each degree of freedom.”

The energy-related with a molecule for one degree of freedom is \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \) KB T where kB is Boltzmann’s constant and T is absolute temperature.
