The old man says that they have good land and they have never been starving like this before. But this year the river has risen and men starve even on good land. They have also eaten their seed. He is worried about the seed and his only grandson. When he is given a copper coin and a silver bit, he spends only the copper coin so that he may buy seed for the land and his grandson. He does not eat noodles and saves the silver bit for his future generation.
वृद्ध व्यक्ति कहता कि उनके पास अच्छी जमीन है और इससे पहले इतनी अच्छी जमीन रखते हुए कभी भी भूखे नहीं रहे। लेकिन इस साल नदी में उफान आया है और ऐसे समय पर, अच्छी जमीन पर भी आदमी भूखे हैं। यहाँ तक कि उन्होंने बीज भी खा लिए हैं। वह बीजों तथा अपने मात्र पोते के लिए चिन्तित है। जब उसको एक तांबे का सिक्का तथा चाँदी का एक टुकड़ा दिया जाता है, वह केवल ताँबे के सिक्के को खर्च करता है ताकि जमीन तथा अपने पोते के लिए बीज खरीद सके। वह नूडल नहीं खाता है और चाँदी के टुकड़े को अपनी आने वाली पीढ़ी के लिए बचाता है।
