Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chaudhari were fast friends. Their friendship began when they were still boys. They had an unshakeable faith in each other’s love and loyalty. When Jumman was going on a pilgrimage, he entrusted his household to the care of Algu. The later did the same. But they differed from each other in their social customs and in their religious beliefs. Though they neither ate nor worshipped together, still they shared in the same likes and this, indeed, is friendship’s foundation.
जुम्मन शेख और अलगू चौधरी घनिष्ठ मित्र थे। उनकी मित्रता उस समय शुरू हुई जब वे छोटे थे। वे एक-दूसरे के प्रेम तथा निष्ठा में एक अविचलनीय विश्वास रखते थे। जब जुम्मन एक तीर्थयात्रा पर जा रहा होता था, वह अपने घरेलू दायित्व अलगू को सौंप जाता था। इसी प्रकार दूसरा करता था। लेकिन वे अपनी सामाजिक प्रथाओं और अपने धार्मिक विश्वासों में एक-दूसरे से भिन्न थे। यद्यपि वे एक-साथ न तो खाते थे और न ही पूजापाठ करते थे, फिर भी उनकी पसंद समान थी और वास्तव में यही मित्रता की असली बुनियाद होती है।
