Science Blessing or Curse
Science has great powers. It is both—a blessing and a curse. Science has given legs to the lame and eyes to the blind. X-ray has done a lot for us. Vaccination has almost rooted out small-pox, cholera etc. Plastic surgery is the latest development in surgery. Now germs die, men live. Today man can live a longer and healthier life. Science has conquered time and space. Now man can fly in the sky like a bird and swim in oceans like a fish. Ships, aeroplanes, trains, motors have been invented. They run very fast on earth, on waters and in air. Electricity is another wonder. In the field of industry, machines have helped us in wide and varied productions. Cinemas, radios, transistors and televisions give us recreation. Computers and robots are wonders. Man has reached the moon and many other planets of this universe. Now earth has established a number of its own satellites.
Science has given birth to many evils. It has invented various war weapons. Atom and hydrogen bombs, and machineguns are the examples. Modern wars are the wars of Science. Science has shaken our faith in God and religion. It has made our life–a life of anxieties. In short, science is a good servant but a bad master.
विज्ञान वरदान अथवा अभिशाप
विज्ञान में बहुत शक्ति होती है। इसमें अच्छे व बुरे गुण पाये जाते हैं।
विज्ञान ने लंगड़ों को टाँगें और अंधों को आँखें दी हैं। एक्स-रे ने हमको चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में बहुत कुछ दिया है। टीकों ने चेचक एवं हैजे को लगभग उन्मूलन कर दिया है। शल्य-चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में प्लास्टिकसर्जरी एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है। अब कीटाणु मरते हैं मानव जीवित रहता है। आज मानव अधिक लम्बा एवं अधिक स्वस्थ जीवन व्यतीत कर सकता है। विज्ञान ने समय एवं दूरी पर विजय प्राप्त कर ली है। अब मनुष्य पक्षी की भाँति आकाश में उड़ सकता है और समुद्र में मछली की तरह तैर सकता है। जलयान, वायुयान, रेल, मोटर आदि का आविष्कार कर लिया गया है। वे पृथ्वी पर, पानी पर तथा हवा में बहुत ही तेज गति से चलते हैं। विद्युत एक अन्य आश्चर्य है। उद्योग के क्षेत्र में मशीनों ने विशाल मात्रा में विभिन्न वस्तुओं का उत्पादन संभव बनाया है। सिनेमा, रेडियो, ट्रांजिस्टर और टेलीविजन हमारा मनोरंजन करते हैं। कम्प्यूटर व रोबोट आश्चर्यजनक हैं। मनुष्य चन्द्रमा तथा इस सौरमण्डल के अन्य बहुत से ग्रहों पर पहुँच गया है।
विज्ञान ने अनेक बुराइयों को जन्म दिया है। इसने विभिन्न प्रकार के युद्ध अस्त्र-शस्त्रों का आविष्कार किया है। एटम बम व हाइड्रोजन बम एवं मशीन-गनें इसके उदाहरण हैं। आधुनिक युद्ध, विज्ञान के युद्ध हैं। विज्ञान ने ईश्वर एवं धर्म में हमारे विश्वास को हिला दिया है। इसने हमारे जीवन को चिन्ताओं का जीवन बना दिया है।
संक्षेप में, विज्ञान एक अच्छा सेवक है, किन्तु बुरा स्वामी है।
