The main causes of backwardness of Indian Forest Industry has been given below:
1. The forests area in India is very less. It is only 0.2 hectare per person.
2. The distribution of forests is uneven.
3. The method of wood-cutting in India is old and primitive.
4. Due to hilly areas, wood cutting is not easy.
5. There is lack of means of transportation in these areas.
6. The same species of trees are not found in the same area, therefore they have less economic value.
7. There is lack of proper forest policy and facilities of research in India.
8. There is lack of harmony among different departments for the conservation of forests.
9. Afforestation, plantation and forest conservation are not reasonably effective in India.
10.The people related to forest conservation and protection are not efficient and aware.
