Government of India adopted the “Forests Protection and Conservation Policy” in 1952 for the development of forests. It was modified in 1988.

The main objectives of this policy are as follows:

2. Starting a mass movement to stop forest – cutting.

3. There should be harmony among different government and non – government departments.

4. Implementation of Afforestation to balance the ecosystem.

5. Productivity of forests should be increased.

6. Extension of the forest area with the help of social forestry and afforestation.

7. Conservation of the natural heritage, bio – diversity and genetic pool of the country.
